"…and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35b) Thirst no more! (By: Pastor L.R. Simas, Sr.) 1-04-09
Please pray that God will open doors for us, as we continue to grow the ministry. The most important thing to remember is, God knows and will provide. Praise God!! Today's message is based on a topic suggestion given to me by Miss Nancy. I offer my thanks to her. I've no doubt that at one time or another you have been thirsty. Today, I want to show how we may never thirst again. I invite you to read on as we look into this subject. In today's message, I call Thirst no more; I hope we might learn how God can touch us! The Bible speaks to this subject! Let's have a look! John 7:36: What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? They were questioning what they didn't understand. Jesus was speaking about His leaving this world and the entrance of the Holy Ghost. They, that have not believed would not have understanding and the very same is true of people today. The way of salvation is belief in Jesus and all that He has done. John 7:37: In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. Folks shall always twist this verse and Jesus' words around to their own why of thinking. Some say this is a literal saying, it is not. Jesus is simply saying come and learn of me and by me. Later we would learn of Jesus by the apostles and then the people whom they taught. And so on to this very day. Like a body of water flows, so too does the Word of God. John 7:38: He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Jesus points to Isaiah as proof that He is “the way, the truth, and the life…” (John 14:6). The living water is His words which flow from His mouth to our ear. Let him that has an ear to hear, let him hear. Or in this case learn by the living water poured out upon the learners. John 7:39: (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) People shall always believe what they will. They expect to hear things the way they want. So, if this is the case, how then can they believe in that which can't be seen? The Holy Spirit would come into the world after Jesus returned to the Father and in the world even today. The thirsty can come to know Jesus and will drink from the fountain poured out by the Holy Spirit that teaches and resides within the believer. So the believer is never thirsty for the truth and spiritual water which is never ending. Isaiah invited all to come and not be hungered or to thirst as well. And as we've seen Jesus' words pointed to this great prophet of God. Let’s look at what Isaiah had to say concerning water and invitation for all to come. Isaiah 55:1: Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Isaiah says to come and you need no money, in fact to purchase what is being offered no amount of money could buy. Isaiah 55:2: Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Isaiah 55:3: Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Isaiah 55:4: Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. Isaiah 55:5: Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. Isaiah 55:6: Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: The invitation offered here is about obtaining the eternal life that would come by Jesus, the living water of eternal life. John 6:35: And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. This is an invitation and a promise given by our Lord Himself. Jesus offered this personal invitation to the Jews of His day. Today it is still available to any and all who will just take the invitation too. To never hunger and thirst this truly would be a Thirst day. This is an individual day for it happens the very second you accept Jesus as your personal saviour! You shall never again hunger for what is right or wrong, nor for doubt. No more will you thirst for knowledge of Jesus and the words of truth He spoke. No, my friend, the good news is that you will have a place in heaven and eternal life with Jesus. This is the message folks lose when the word of God is misread. I Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Paul says this is the reason unsaved often reject Jesus, also the Word of God. The Word of God is not easily understood and if one is not saved (accepted Jesus) then of course His words will be confusing too. The person or persons, who believe not, will learn not as well. How can one drink from the living water if one refuses to accept it? John 4:13: Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: John 4:14: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus speaking to the woman at the well explained, in detail what it was He offers to anyone at all. Because Jesus can't sin and or lie, why then do people not believe (as this woman did) what He said as fact? Jesus is the truth! Jesus is the water unto eternal life! And Jesus is the only way to heaven! Jesus is the invitation to life, not death. She believed, will you? Jesus is the Messiah, promised to the Jews and the Saviour to the Gentile world. Jesus is the Son that brings light into a dark world. Jesus is the Son of God the man who is also God and deity who invites whosoever to drink from the fountain of living water. If you have not drank of Him it is He that invites you to come to the thirst day! I'd like to thank Miss Nancy for the topic idea. I pray we have gotten something to share out of today's message.
