"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." (Psalms 90:12) Time, why do we misuse it?? By: Pastor Lawrence R. Simas, Sr. 6-15-2010
Who do we think we are that we misuse the time the Lord has appointed us?? Why do we think we can just do what we see fit! Once we are nearly out of time, then we decide to speak to the Lord either to play "let’s make a deal" or make our peace (get saved maybe?) with him. Why do we think we can tell God when we please to, “okay I'm ready to speak with you now!! God has already said, (in case you didn't see it in your brand of bible) "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" (Hebrews 9:27) We were not given an endless supply of tomorrows. Just ask Jimmy Dean, Marvin Isley, Rue McClanahan, Dennis Lee Hopper, Gary Wayne Coleman, and Arthur Gordon "Art" Linkletter to name a few of the names (now gone) of famous folks most people would recognize. Oh, there is just one problem you can't ask them because they ran out of tomorrows! How many of these folks do you think even gave a thought to time?? How about running out of it?? And what about taking precious time to talk with the maker and Lord of heaven?? You are planning on going there, are you not?? Then give more than a fleeting thought to time as someone said, "Time waits for no man." Well neither does God!! You are able to have time because His son and our Saviour (the only way to heaven) Jesus died to provide time and much more. Paul gave us instruction on time. Listen as Paul says, "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." (I Corinthians 13:11) Paul is speaking of seeing things as they are and having to grow up and make decisions. He was speaking much like Solomon when he spoke about time. Solomon said, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" (Ecclesiastes 3: 1) Solomon in just this opening sentence says that time is a very valuable commodity not to be trivialized, but to be taken seriously. Today and the world we exist in think not about time, nor its consequences. Folks just go about the day and days not giving care to it as it passes all too quickly. What about heaven or God?? We have wonderful ways to get around all the God stuff!! We simply don't allow God, the bible, and other such stuff!! It's called being politically correct!! I wonder how many of these good (right!!!) folks made it to heaven?? Instead of fussing and fighting over what is or isn't the right thing to do, or which bible is correct, think about the limits time places upon you!! We can discuss which bible is correct, once we have made the decision of a lifetime. I have very strong feelings about what is called "the Bible" however, that being said and without compromising. The subject at hand is time and the use of it. To argue over time is a worthwhile endeavor because your eternal life is dependent on how you use or misuse time. If you have even given thought about an afterlife then it might have scared you. I believe that if it did then you’re not unique!! If you have ever attended a funeral you may have heard it said, "he's gone to a better place" and the like. Have you considered, what is that better place? Or how did he or she get there?? Yet even more reason to not misuse time!! So, what are you going to do now? Or do you think you still have plenty of time?? Then please remember this, Jesus died for you, will you live for Him?? If you one day wake up dead, and in a place you'd never thought you'd ever be, and found that it was not just all talk, don't blame Jesus. He is not to blame, you are!!
