For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you,
bread:
(
I Corinthians 11:23)
Remember me!

"Easter Sunday" is soon to arrive. Before that happened I want to
share with you what happened first. Jesus (as you may know and
hopefully believe) came to this earth for one and only one reason.
That reason was to give Himself as a completely and totally sinless
sacrifice, and a holy and acceptable one at that too! This sacrifice was
given to God, and for whom?? Right, us!! The whole entire world.
Jesus repeats what the Father says, "
For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life
" (John 3:16). This is
probably the most memorized verse in the Bible. Nothing else or
anyone else could do for us what Jesus did. You see my friends; God
demanded a perfect and sinless sacrifice!  As Abraham said to Isaac
long ago in answer to his son's question, "...Behold the fire and the
wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" (Genesis 22:7).
Abraham said to his son, "My son, God will provide himself a lamb
for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together" (Genesis 22:
8). Later John would say in his gospel, "Behold the Lamb of God,
which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). So we see no
other sacrifice would do.
Now why a sacrifice would be needed at all??  Again we look to the
Bible for the answer. Paul says, "Wherefore, as by one man sin
entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all
men, for that all have sinned:" (Romans 5:12). When the Devil said,
"Yea hath God said" or more completely the serpent spoke to Eve
these words, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the
field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman,
Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden And
the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees
of the garden: “(Genesis 3:1-2). Thus every lie finds its origin in a
truth. And as you know that Adam soon followed his wife Eve in
being tricked and he also partook of the forbidden fruit. God didn't lie
as they both did die!! God had warned them and told them truth. He
didn't say when they would die. All God said was in the day of eating,
death would begin. I hope we understand now how we are in the state
we're in?? If not, may I suggest you continue reading the rest of the
story.
Now I'd like to continue with the opening verse and share with you
about it and the importance of it. We know that Jesus knew His time
had arrived. He had a deep desired to share this supper (the last
supper) with His disciples.
There are four accounts of this supper recorded in the Bible, Matthew
26:26-30, Mark 14:22-25, and in Luke 22:16-22 and the one I use the
most, located in I Corinthians 11:23-26 Which says, "For I have
received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the
Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And
when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said,
Take, eat: this is my
body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me
. After
the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying,
This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye
drink it, in remembrance of me
. For as often as ye eat this bread, and
drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come". Notice that
with each part of the supper Jesus said, “
...in remembrance of me".
Also and maybe even more so important, notice that Jesus wasn't
dead!! For all these events took place before Jesus went to the cross.
Thus all that was said was remember Him when we partake of this
special supper. After this “the last supper" was ended they sang
hymns and walked to the Mount of Olives. The next thing that
happens is Jesus is betrayed by Judas ("
...Judas, betrayest thou the
Son of man with a kiss?
)" (Luke 22:48) then is tried illegally (by night
a trial is invalid) and taken before the governor to be sentenced to
death by crucifixion.
Try if you can to imagine the horrific and intense pain Jesus must
have felt as the nails tore through His flesh. Then stop and think for a
minute because it was caused by us!! Every one of us! All of the
world is guilty both then and now. Wrap your mind around that scene
and remember He said, "
Father, forgive them; for they know not
what they do
" (Luke 23:34). Notice this is the first time Jesus asks
His Father to forgive sins and who was being forgiven?? How about
the very people that had nailed Him to the cross?? Or maybe all that
were there or maybe still the whole world??
The last thing in Luke's gospel that Jesus utters before giving up the
ghost was a reply to the thief who said, "And he said unto Jesus,
Lord,
remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom". Jesus
replied, "
Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in
paradise
" (Luke 23:42-43). Maybe that’s why in Paul’s epistle he
quotes Jesus saying, “…This cup is the new testament in my blood:
this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me “(I Corinthians
11:25).
So now we who are of today know what Jesus’ message was to
remember Him, to repent, receive Him, and be saved. The problem
with things today is all is not going well for most folks. We are
following every wind of doctrine or believing just about everything we
are being feed in hopes of things getting better. Parts of the problems
of today are related (maybe indirectly) to the happenings of years
gone by.
The one that most concerns me is the loss or losing of faith and
turning to other things, people, and bibles of all sorts, thinking it
doesn't matter. Well, my friends it matters to The Lord.
Jesus died for you, will you live for Him??
